Serhou Guirassy continued his fine form as Borussia Dortmund secured a 2-0 victory over St Pauli on Saturday, keeping their slim hopes of finishing in the Bundesliga’s top four alive. Meanwhile, RB Leipzig’s struggles deepened with a 2-1 home defeat to Mainz.
Guirassy, fresh off scoring four goals in a 6-0 rout of Union Berlin, opened the scoring five minutes into the second half, tapping in a pass from Karim Adeyemi. Adeyemi then doubled the lead with a superb solo effort, muscling past two defenders before finishing coolly.
The win marks the first time Dortmund have won consecutive league games this season. They now sit 10th, six points off the final Champions League qualification spot with 10 games left. Guirassy has netted 24 goals across all competitions since joining from Stuttgart last summer—more than St Pauli’s entire league tally this season.
Leipzig, on the other hand, endured another frustrating evening. Xavi Simons gave them an early lead, slotting in a rebound just a minute into the match, but Mainz hit back with two quick goals in the second half. Nadiem Amiri equalised in the 52nd minute before Jonathan Burkhardt completed the turnaround six minutes later.
Mainz, who barely avoided relegation last season, now find themselves in fourth place and on course for a maiden Champions League campaign. Leipzig have won just one of their last eight league games and risk missing out on Champions League football for the first time since 2017-18.
Elsewhere, Patrick Wimmer’s brace helped Wolfsburg to a 2-1 win over Werder Bremen, boosting their European hopes. Borussia Mönchengladbach also impressed with a 3-0 victory at Heidenheim, courtesy of a Robin Hack double and a goal from Nathan Ngoumou.
In the battle for survival, Bayern Munich-bound Tom Bischof scored the winner as Heidenheim edged Bochum 1-0.
Later on Saturday, reigning champions Bayer Leverkusen visit Eintracht Frankfurt, aiming to close the gap to league leaders Bayern Munich, who defeated Stuttgart on Friday. Leverkusen then turn their attention to a Champions League last-16 clash against Bayern, with the first leg set for Wednesday in Munich.
