Gunfire and explosions have been reported in the vicinity of the presidential palace in Venezuela’s capital, Caracas, according to local news and unverified footage on social media.

Videos circulating online appeared to show armed individuals with heavy weaponry and military vehicles stationed around Miraflores Palace.

The clips showed security personnel monitoring the streets near the palace, while residents appeared to be taking cover. As per local sources, the gunfire erupted at approximately 8 pm local time following sightings of unidentified drones flying around the palace, leading to uncertainty since authorities had not yet informed the public about the situation.

There were no immediate reports of injuries or casualties, and no official communication had been released regarding damage or arrests.

This reported security event occurred just hours after Vice President Delcy Rodriguez was inaugurated as acting president following the apprehension of President Nicolas Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, during a U.S. military operation over the weekend.

Authorities have not verified whether the occurrences near the palace are directly tied to the ongoing political turmoil in the country.
