The Chief of Staff to the Zamfara State Governor, Mouktar Lugga, escaped unhurt after gunmen attacked his convoy along the Gusau–Funtua Highway on Thursday evening.
The incident occurred around 6:00 p.m. near Kucheri Village in Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara State, when armed assailants reportedly emerged from the bush on both sides of the road and opened fire on the vehicle conveying the senior government official.
During the attack, a bullet pierced the vehicle’s windscreen but narrowly missed the driver. Another attacker’s weapon reportedly malfunctioned at close range.

The driver was able to manoeuvre the car out of the area in spite of the ambush, guaranteeing everyone’s safety.
In a phone interview with Channels Television, Lugga confirmed the incident and stated that no one was hurt.

“They emerged from the bush and shot at my vehicle, but Alhamdulillah, we are all safe. The bullet did not hit anyone,” Lugga said.
The attack is the most recent in a string of security incidents that have occurred along major highways in Zamfara, a state that has consistently been threatened by armed groups.
