Several military and police officers, along with civilians, have been allegedly killed after gunmen ambushed security forces in the Giro Masa community, Shanga Local Government Area of Kebbi State, on Tuesday night.
Local sources said the exact number of security personnel killed is yet to be confirmed, though two residents were also reported dead in the attack.
Eyewitnesses said the attackers had been moving around the community and nearby areas before advancing towards a construction company yard, where soldiers were reportedly deployed following a tip-off from residents.
However, the security team was said to have been ambushed while en route to the location, leading to a fierce exchange of gunfire.

During the attack, the assailants reportedly set two military gun trucks ablaze.
A resident, who asked not to be named, described the incident as chaotic and frightening.
“The gunmen came into our village and were heading towards the construction company yard. We alerted security personnel, but they were ambushed,” the source said.
Another eyewitness said panic spread quickly as the violence unfolded.
Shanga LGA, like several parts of Kebbi State, has experienced repeated attacks in recent years, often involving ambushes on security forces and civilians, with attackers typically fleeing into remote or forested areas.
