Achraf Hakimi won the CAF Men’s Player of the Year award, while his compatriot Ghizlane Chebbak claimed the CAF Women’s Player of the Year prize, securing a double victory for Morocco at the CAF Awards 2025 in Rabat on Wednesday, where Africa’s top performers of the year were celebrated.
The ceremony brought together players, coaches and Legends from across the continent and beyond in a showcase of excellence as African football continues to gain prominence globally.
Paris Saint-Germain right-back Hakimi earned the Men’s Player of the Year honour after an exceptional 2025 in which he lifted the UEFA Champions League, UEFA Super Cup, French Ligue 1, Coupe de France and reached the FIFA Club World Cup final. He also played a key role in securing Morocco’s qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Hakimi is the first defender to win the award since TP Mazembe’s Bwanga Tshimen in 1973 and the first Moroccan recipient since Mustapha Hadji in 1998.
Chebbak delivered consistent performances for club and country throughout 2025 and finished as the leading scorer at the TotalEnergies CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in July, where Morocco finished as runners-up to Nigeria. She transferred from AS FAR to Al-Hilal ahead of the 2025/26 season, joining “six-time CAF Women’s Player of the Year Asisat Oshoala.” Chebbak becomes the first Moroccan to win the women’s award.
Morocco enjoyed further success as Yassine Bounou earned the CAF Men’s Goalkeeper of the Year award following a standout year that included a place in the Best XI at the FIFA Club World Cup 2025.
Nigeria’s Chiamaka Nnadozie retained the CAF Women’s Goalkeeper of the Year honour for the third straight year after helping the Super Falcons win the TotalEnergies CAF WAFCON Morocco 2024.
CAF Men’s Coach of the Year was awarded to Bubista for guiding Cape Verde to their first-ever FIFA World Cup qualification, a historic milestone for the nation. The CAF Women’s Coach of the Year award will be presented after the ongoing CAF Women’s Champions League Egypt 2025.
DR Congo forward Fiston Mayele secured the CAF Men’s Interclub Player of the Year title after finishing as top scorer in the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League 2024/25 and helping Egyptian side Pyramids win the competition for the first time. The women’s interclub winner will be announced at the end of the CAF Women’s Champions League.
Othmane Maamma was named CAF Men’s Young Player of the Year for his standout performances in Morocco’s victorious FIFA Under-20 World Cup 2025 campaign. Doha El Madani retained the CAF Women’s Young Player of the Year award after leading AS FAR to the Morocco Women’s Championship and finishing as top scorer at the CAF Women’s Futsal Africa Cup of Nations 2025, which Morocco won.
Morocco’s Under-20 side earned the Men’s National Team of the Year award after capturing the FIFA Under-20 World Cup 2025 title, while Nigeria’s Super Falcons were named Women’s National Team of the Year for the second consecutive year following their TotalEnergies CAF WAFCON Morocco 2024 triumph.
Pyramids’ CAF Champions League win secured them the CAF Men’s Club of the Year award, while the women’s club winner will be revealed after the CAF Women’s Champions League in Egypt.
Goal of the Year was awarded to Tanzania’s Clement Mzize for his spectacular long-range strike for Young Africans against TP Mazembe in the CAF Champions League, the only category determined by fan voting.
