The leader of the New Nigeria Peoples’ Party (NNPP), Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has said he would only consider joining another political party if he is offered either the presidential ticket or the vice-presidential slot ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Kwankwaso made the remarks while addressing supporters at a Kwankwasiyya gathering at his residence on Miller Road in Kano.
He said discussions were ongoing at the national level about possible alliances. Still, he stressed that any partnership must recognise his political standing by offering him a place on the presidential ticket, either as a candidate or running mate.

“At the national level, we are looking for a political party to align with,” he said. “But it must be a party that will offer me either the presidential ticket or the vice-presidential slot.”
The comments come amid speculation over a possible defection of Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf from the NNPP to the All Progressives Congress (APC). Kwankwaso dismissed the reports, describing them as unrealistic and unfounded.
Kwankwason also criticised the current style of politics under President Bola Tinubu.
He stated that the presence of many governors on the APC platform does not guarantee success at the polls, adding that credibility, popular support, and performance remain the key factors that determine electoral outcomes.
