More than 30 people have been killed, with several others abducted, following a midnight attack by suspected bandits on Dutsin Dan Ajiya village in Anka Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
The assault, which began late Thursday and continued into the early hours of Friday, saw armed men reportedly arrive on motorcycles, seal off entry and exit routes, and open fire on residents before carrying out abductions.

A resident said the attackers blocked all access roads and began shooting indiscriminately, forcing villagers to flee in panic. The resident added that, after the raid, dozens were confirmed dead, several others injured, while several residents remained unaccounted for.
In response, Governor Dauda Lawal directed his deputy, Mani Mumuni, to visit the affected community to sympathise with victims and deliver condolences to bereaved families.

Zamfara remains one of several North-West states grappling with persistent banditry, alongside Kebbi, Kaduna, Sokoto, and Katsina, where armed groups frequently carry out killings, kidnappings, and cattle rustling linked to resource conflicts.
