Two people were injured in the early hours of Sunday after two trucks collided around the Arepo Bridge section of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway,

According to reports, the accident, which occurred at about 4 a.m., caused heavy traffic along the busy highway as officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) worked to clear the road and tow the damaged vehicles.

Eyewitnesses said one of the drivers suffered serious injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. Another witness said the other driver sustained only minor injuries in the incident.

Another motorist who observed the crash suggested that waste materials left on the highway may have contributed to the accident.

The driver of one of the trucks, Yakubu Musa, who sustained minor injuries, said the incident occurred after his vehicle lost stability on a slippery substance on the road.

Musa explained that he was travelling from Ikeja to Sagamu to pick up a load when the truck began to sway around the Arepo area. He said he tried to regain control of the vehicle but eventually lost control near the Punch Bridge, where the truck crashed into the median barrier.

He said he later realised that a slippery substance, believed to be factory waste, had been spilt on the road, adding that several vehicles passing through the area were affected, with some sustaining broken windscreens and damaged indicators.

Officials of the Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency later arrived at the scene and began directing traffic to reduce the gridlock caused by the accident.
