Voting commenced Saturday morning in several polling units across the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), though delays were recorded in some centres due to logistical challenges.
At PU001, Kuje Central Primary School, voting began around 8:30 a.m., with the first ballot cast at 8:38 a.m. About 10 voters were on queue as accreditation proceeded using the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS).
Also, at the Grade 1 Area Court in Kuje Area Council, accreditation began at 9:01 a.m., with 22 voters waiting to cast their ballots.
In the Abaji Area Council, PU 013 in Sabon Tasha New Development recorded a large turnout, with many voters lined up for accreditation.
Voting was also in progress at Rugan Fulani 006 in Kwali Area Council and at Pilot Science Primary School in Kwali Ward, where over 100 voters were reported on queue under the supervision of security personnel.
High turnout was also observed at Kutunku Primary School in Gwagwalada Area Council, where voters queued patiently, although some complained that their names were not on the register and were directed to other polling units within the premises.
However, voting started late in parts of the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC). At Area 1 Junior Secondary School and Park and Gardens in the city centre, presiding officers cited logistical challenges as the cause of the delay.
At PU 005, officials said they commenced the exercise later than scheduled after resolving material distribution issues.
At PU 067 in Area 2, Garki, voting had not begun as of 9:23 a.m. The presiding officer said the team arrived at 8:30 a.m. but had to wait for a canopy before setting up the booth. The unit has 13 registered voters.
Some ad hoc officials were observed having trouble finding their polling places earlier in the morning, which caused delays in setting up elsewhere in the city centre.
Police and other security forces were stationed throughout polling places to monitor the procedure and enforce movement restrictions.
