India’s cricket board announced a cash reward of $5.75 million on Monday for the women’s team following their successful World Cup campaign. In front of a packed house at Mumbai’s DY Patil Stadium on Sunday, the host nation defeated South Africa by 52 runs, claiming their first one-day international (ODI) World Cup title.
Devajit Saikia, secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), said the funds were awarded “as a token of appreciation for the women’s team” and would be distributed among the players, support staff, and selectors involved.
The Indian women’s team, having achieved victory on their third attempt after being runners-up in 2005 and 2017, has already been awarded $4.48 million in prize money from the International Cricket Council (ICC), a remarkable 239 per cent increase from the $1.32 million given to Australia in 2022.

This Women’s World Cup featured a total prize pool of $13.88 million, surpassing the $10 million available during the previous men’s championship.
Despite struggling during the league stage and facing three consecutive losses, India secured the last semi-final spot before eliminating record seven-time champions Australia.
Fans took to the streets to celebrate the victory, with large crowds in Delhi waving Indian flags and launching fireworks.
