The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has rescheduled the Osun State governorship election from Saturday, August 8, 2026, to Saturday, August 15, 2026.
INEC announced the change in a statement on Thursday.
The commission said the change was part of adjustments arising from the enactment of the Electoral Act 2026.
“The revised dates are consistent with the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended) and the Electoral Act, 2026.
The successful conduct of the forthcoming elections remains a collective responsibility,” INEC said.

The commission said some preparatory activities for the Ekiti and Osun governorship elections had already been conducted.
However, it noted that all outstanding processes would now be carried out strictly in line with the provisions of the Electoral Act 2026.
INEC called on political parties, candidates, and other stakeholders to cooperate in ensuring peaceful, credible, and inclusive elections that reflect the sovereign will of the Nigerian people.
The electoral body also postponed the Presidential and National Assembly polls to January 16, 2027.
The Governorship and State Houses of Assembly Elections will now be held on Saturday, 6th February 2027.
