INEC Officials Prepare AMAC Polling Stations

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) officials were at polling units across the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) on Saturday morning, preparing for the election of chairpersons and councillors.

A News Central reporter observed officials setting up Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) machines for ten polling stations and distributing election materials at UNG Pashe/Central Primary School in Karu.

Security officers from other divisions briefly arrived for surveillance, while All Progressives Congress (APC) agents were organised and tagged before moving to their assigned units.

Vehicles were observed operating despite a “no movement” directive issued prior to the elections.

Across the Federal Capital Territory, 1,680,415 registered voters are expected to cast ballots at 2,822 polling units, supported by 4,345 BVAS machines. INEC has accredited 88 domestic and international observer groups to monitor the exercise.

The elections cover AMAC, Bwari, Gwagwalada, Kuje, Kwali, and Abaji, with 637 candidates from 17 political parties contesting 62 political wards. Voting has not yet started as of the time this report was filed, as most polling places are still finishing their preparations.
