INEC Sets 2027 Election Timetable INEC Sets 2027 Election Timetable

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has set the timetable and schedule of activities for the 2027 general election, notwithstanding the National Assembly’s ongoing delays in passing amendments to the Electoral Act.

INEC Chairman Prof. Joash Amupitan disclosed this on Wednesday in Abuja during an engagement with civil society organisations.

Amupitan said the commission has completed work on the election timetable and has forwarded its recommendations on the proposed amendments to lawmakers but is awaiting legislative action before releasing the schedule.

He noted that while the timetable has been concluded, the timing of the Electoral Act’s amendment could still affect certain aspects of the election process.

According to him, some activities in the timetable may need to be adjusted depending on when the National Assembly concludes work on the amended law.

The INEC chairman, however, reiterated that the commission remains fully prepared for the 2027 general election and is committed to delivering a credible poll.

He added that until the amended Electoral Act is passed and signed into law, INEC will continue to operate in line with the existing legal framework.
