INEC to Pause Voter Registration in Benue

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Benue State has announced that the first phase of the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise will be paused on December 10, 2025.

The announcement was made in a statement signed by the Resident Electoral Commissioner, Prof. Sam Egwu, who urged citizens and stakeholders to take note.

The first phase of the CVR began on August 25, 2025.

Prof. Egwu explained that following the suspension, a seven-day public display of the preliminary voter register will take place at all local government offices and the state office.

The display for claims and objections will run from December 15 to 21, 2025, allowing eligible voters to verify their details and raise any concerns to help clean the register ahead of the next phase.

The second phase of the CVR is scheduled to begin on January 5, 2026.

Prof. Egwu encouraged political parties, civil society groups, community leaders, and the public to participate in the process, reaffirming INEC’s commitment to a transparent and credible voters’ register ahead of upcoming elections.
