Inter Milan’s march toward the Serie A title hit another obstacle on Saturday as they were held to a 1–1 draw by Atalanta at a rain-soaked San Siro.

The league leaders appeared to be cruising toward a double-digit lead at the top of the table after Francesco Pio Esposito opened the scoring in the 26th minute with a clinical, angled strike.

However, the hosts failed to capitalise on their dominance, leaving the door open for a late twist that has significantly reignited the Scudetto conversation.

The match ended in chaos and controversy when Nikola Krstovic salvaged a point for Atalanta in the 82nd minute.

Inter’s players and staff were incensed, claiming that Kamaldeen Sulemana had fouled Denzel Dumfries in the buildup to the equaliser.

The protests became so heated that Inter manager Cristian Chivu was shown a red card and sent to the stands.

The dropped points mean Inter now hold an eight-point lead over AC Milan, who have a crucial opportunity to trim that gap to just five points when they face Lazio on Sunday.

For Atalanta, the draw serves as a vital morale booster following their devastating 6–1 loss to Bayern Munich in the Champions League earlier in the week.

The hard-earned point keeps them in seventh place and firmly in the hunt for European qualification.

Meanwhile, the result has wide-ranging implications for the rest of the top six: Juventus, Roma, and surprise contenders Como are all positioned to make significant moves in the standings as the most competitive Italian title race in years enters its final stretch.
