Inter Miami has announced that a spectator section in its new stadium will be named in honour of club captain Lionel Messi.

The Major League Soccer side said its upcoming 26,700-seat venue, Nu Stadium, will feature a “Leo Messi Stand” when it hosts its first match on April 4.

“Inter Miami CF is excited to announce Leo Messi stand, with our number 10 and captain set to become part of a rare and unique case in global sports: an athlete regularly playing at his home stadium with a stand named in his honour,” Inter Miami said.

The club described the decision as a rare gesture in global sport, noting that it reflects Messi’s ongoing influence and leadership since joining the team.

Inter Miami explained that while sporting tributes are often based on past achievements, this recognition is tied to what the Argentine forward continues to bring to the club, adding that fans are witnessing a unique moment in real time every time he steps on the pitch.

“Traditionally, tributes look to the past. They are built from nostalgia. From memory.

“This one is different. This one is born from the present. From what is happening right now. From what you feel every time Leo steps onto the pitch.

“Recognizing someone is not always about closing a chapter. Sometimes it is about realizing you are witnessing something unique.”

Nu Stadium will replace the club’s temporary home at Chase Stadium in Fort Lauderdale, where Inter Miami have played since entering Major League Soccer in 2020.

Messi, who joined the club three years ago, has transformed its fortunes, helping them secure four trophies, including the 2023 Leagues Cup and the 2025 MLS Cup.
