Global police organisation Interpol has lifted a red wanted notice for the arrest of Paul Watson, the prominent anti-whaling activist and founder of the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society.
One of Watson’s lawyers, William Julie, confirmed the decision on Tuesday, stating Interpol deemed the measure “disproportionate.”

The red notice, which is a request to law enforcement worldwide to locate and provisionally arrest a person pending extradition, had been issued at the behest of Japan.
Watson is widely known for his organisation’s confrontational tactics, including direct interventions with whaling ships at sea.
