Inter Milan manager Simone Inzaghi believes his team’s impressive journey to the Champions League final has given them the confidence to overcome a strong Paris Saint-Germain side in Saturday’s decisive match in Munich.

“It’s always incredibly thrilling before any Champions League game, especially the final. We fully deserve to be here because we’ve demonstrated tremendous determination from our very first match in Manchester,” Inzaghi said during a press conference at the Allianz Arena, the venue for the final.

Inter’s European campaign kicked off with a goalless draw away at Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City in September, a rematch of the closely contested 2023 final in Istanbul where City edged them out.

The Nerazzurri finished fourth in the group stage of 36 teams, suffering just one defeat and conceding a solitary goal across eight games.

They then overcame Feyenoord in the round of 16 before eliminating two tournament favourites, Bayern Munich in the quarter-finals and Barcelona in a memorable semi-final showdown.

“These opponents have been formidable, so our place here is well-earned, even though we know the last step is still the toughest,” Inzaghi added, dismissing speculation about his future after the final.

It is expected that seven players who started the 2023 final against City will feature again for Inter against a youthful PSG side, with their greater experience potentially proving decisive.

“Every match is unique, and finals often hinge on key moments,” he said ahead of facing the French giants who, like City, have become one of Europe’s richest clubs over the past decade.

“Two years ago, we weren’t favourites, but we matched City on the pitch and perhaps deserved more.”

One of Europe’s historic clubs, Inter now have the chance to claim their fourth Champions League title, having won previously in 1964, 1965, and 2010.

However, they must quickly recover from the disappointment of narrowly missing out on the Serie A title to Napoli last weekend.

“The mental aspect is crucial. The players have worked very hard, and naturally we’ve put the domestic setback behind us,” said Inzaghi, who confirmed his squad is fully fit.

“All players are available, so the choice is mine. The players should avoid obsession but must have the right level of determination.”
