Iran clinched the final qualification spot for the AFC Women’s Asian Cup Australia 2026, defeating Jordan 2-1 in Amman on Saturday.
This victory means that the full lineup for the tournament, set to take place in Perth, the Gold Coast, and Sydney from March 1 to 21, is now complete.
Iran, under coach Marziyeh Jafari, will join an impressive roster of teams. Automatic qualifiers include defending champions China, Asian football giants Japan and South Korea, as well as host nation Australia.
Through the qualifying rounds, Iran emerged alongside India, Bangladesh, Taiwan, Vietnam, Uzbekistan, the Philippines, and North Korea.
“It’s a fascinating time for the AFC Women’s Asian Cup Australia 2026—the final 12 teams are locked in,” stated local organising committee chief Sarah Walsh on Sunday.
She added, “There’s a real energy building, not just here in Australia but across Asia, and this diverse, high-quality line-up shows just how far women’s football has come.”
The official tournament draw is scheduled for July 29 in Sydney.
