A policeman was killed in Iran’s southeastern province of Sistan-Baluchistan after terrorists attempted to storm a police station, Iranian media reported on Sunday.
According to the Tasnim news agency, three of the assailants were also killed, and two others were arrested.
The attackers were identified as members of Jaish al-Adl, a Sunni terrorist group based in Pakistan that is active in the region.
The incident took place at a police station in the Saravan area of the province, which shares a long and restive border with both Pakistan and Afghanistan.
Sistan-Baluchistan has been the site of frequent clashes between Iranian security forces and various insurgent and smuggling groups.
The province is home to a large Baloch ethnic minority, who are Sunni Muslims in a Shiite-majority Iran.
The attack follows two other recent deadly incidents in the province, including an assault on a courthouse in July that killed at least six people and a separate attack in October that left ten police officers dead.
