Iran Strikes Israel Following Tehran Oil Depots Attacks

Tensions between Iran and Israel have escalated dramatically after Iran fired a barrage of missiles into central and northern Israel, reportedly killing at least 10 people and injuring over 100, according to Israeli emergency services.

The strikes were launched in retaliation for what Tehran claims were Israeli military attacks on several of its nuclear infrastructure sites, including an oil depot in the capital.

Iran’s Ministry of Oil confirmed that the Shahran oil depot in Tehran was struck in the latest round of Israeli offensives. In response, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian issued a stern warning, saying, “If Israel does not stand down, our response will be even more severe.”

The flare-up comes just as the United States and Iran were set to resume talks over Tehran’s nuclear programme this Sunday. However, mediator Oman has now confirmed that the negotiations have been cancelled in light of the current hostilities.

U.S. President Donald Trump, commenting on the rising tensions, distanced Washington from the conflict. “The U.S. had nothing to do with the latest Israeli strikes on Iran,” he said. “But I still believe a deal can easily be done between Iran and Israel.”

As a result of the ongoing conflict, Israel’s Airports Authority has announced that Ben Gurion International Airport will remain closed to both incoming and outgoing flights for a third consecutive day.

“All air crews and aircraft are ready for action as soon as this becomes possible, but this may take a long time, depending on the security situation,” the authority said in a statement. “A decision on the return of flights to Israel will only be made when we know that it is safe.” It added that while the airport remains closed, land border crossings to Jordan and Egypt are still open.

News Central reports that Iran has extended the closure of its airspace until 3 p.m. local time (11:30 GMT) today, citing security concerns.

The situation remains volatile as both nations weigh their next moves amidst rising regional and international concern.
