A Kuwaiti crude oil tanker, the Al-Salmi, was set ablaze following a targeted Iranian drone attack early Tuesday morning while anchored at Dubai Port.
The Kuwait Petroleum Corporation (KPC) described the strike as a “direct and malicious” act of aggression occurring shortly after midnight.
While the vessel was fully laden with two million barrels of oil at the time, the Dubai Media Office confirmed that firefighting teams successfully contained the blaze and that all 24 crew members are safe and uninjured.
Initial reports from the state news agency KUNA raised concerns over a potential oil spill due to significant hull damage; however, UAE authorities later clarified that no leakage had been detected in the surrounding waters.
The attack, which took place in a crowded anchorage zone northwest of Dubai, briefly caused a sharp spike in global oil prices, with West Texas Intermediate (WTI) futures jumping nearly 4% to $107 per barrel.

This incident is part of a broader escalation of regional hostilities that began in late February.
Simultaneously, Kuwait’s Ministry of Defence reported that its own air defence systems were actively intercepting a separate wave of “hostile missile and drone attacks” on Tuesday.
As the conflict enters its fifth week, the targeting of vital energy infrastructure continues to threaten global supply chains and maritime security in the Persian Gulf.
