Iranian Navy Forces British Destroyer to Divert Course During Israeli Strikes

The Iranian Navy intercepted a British destroyer in the northern Indian Ocean, reportedly preventing it from assisting Israeli missile targeting on Iranian territory, according to Iran’s state news agency IRNA on Saturday.

A statement from the First Naval Zone’s public relations office said that Iranian intelligence detected the British warship on Friday night and issued warnings via combat drones as the vessel approached the Persian Gulf. The destroyer was forced to alter its course after being tracked in the Sea of Oman.

This development comes during a series of unprovoked Israeli airstrikes on Iranian nuclear and missile facilities early Friday, which killed senior military commanders and scientists. The ongoing attacks have caused at least 78 deaths and injured over 320 people, according to figures provided by Iran’s UN envoy. Iran has responded with retaliatory strikes against Israeli targets.
