Four Syrian security personnel were killed in an Islamic State (IS) attack in Raqqa, a city recently recaptured by Damascus from Kurdish forces, state media reported on Monday.
The assault, described by Syria’s interior ministry as the second against security forces in as many days, follows IS calls for fighters to confront Syrian authorities.
The official SANA cited a security source confirming that “four members of the internal security forces” were killed in the attack, which targeted a checkpoint.
The ministry added that one of the assailants was also killed.
No details were given regarding casualties from the previous day’s incident, though it reportedly also resulted in the death of one attacker.

Syria’s government seized Raqqa last month from Kurdish forces, who had been backed by the US in their fight against IS until the group’s territorial defeat in 2019.
IS had previously established Raqqa as its de facto capital, though sleeper cells continue to operate in Syria’s desert regions.
Since the December 2024 ousting of long-time ruler Bashar al-Assad, the new Syrian authorities — who had historical links to Al-Qaeda — have sought to present a more moderate image.
Last year, Syria joined the US-led coalition against IS and has been coordinating operations targeting the group’s remnants.
