The Israeli army announced on Thursday that it had identified the remains of two hostages, Inbar Hayman and Mohammad al-Atrash, whose bodies Hamas returned to Israel the previous evening.
According to a military statement, “Following the completion of the identification process by the National Institute of Forensic Medicine, representatives of the Israeli military informed the families of Inbar Hayman and Sergeant Major Mohammad al-Atrash that their bodies had been returned for burial.”
Hayman, a 27-year-old graffiti artist from Haifa known as “Pink,” was killed during the Nova music festival attack, with her remains taken to Gaza. Al-Atrash, a 39-year-old Bedouin soldier, was killed in combat on October 7, and his body was also taken into the Palestinian enclave.
Defence Minister Israel Katz expressed condolences “on behalf of the entire defence establishment,” describing Hayman as a victim of Hamas “murderers” and Al-Atrash as a hero who “fell in battle defending his comrades.”
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office said the government “shares in the deep sorrow” of the victims’ families and insisted that Hamas must “uphold its commitments to mediators and return all hostages” under the terms of the ceasefire agreement.
Katz warned late Wednesday that Israel would resume fighting if Hamas failed to honour the US-backed truce, after the group claimed it had returned all accessible bodies and needed special equipment to recover the remaining ones.
