Israel Destroys Khamenei’s Command Bunker

Crowds of Iranians gathered in central Tehran and elsewhere for the first Friday prayers since the start of the war with the United States and Israel. This week's Friday prayers were also the first since the killing of Iran's supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in the wave of US and Israeli strikes that triggered the Middle East war. Israeli fighter jets dismantled a strategic underground bunker in the heart of Tehran, which had been designed as a secure command centre for the late Iranian leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. The operation, known as “Roaring Lion,” was a critical part of the larger Israeli offensive during the ongoing Middle East conflict.

According to the Israeli military, the bunker was located beneath the regime’s leadership compound and was intended for Khamenei’s exclusive use as an emergency command post. However, the Iranian Supreme Leader was eliminated before he could access the bunker, which remained operational for other senior Iranian officials.

“The underground military bunker, which was located beneath the regime’s leadership compound in the centre of Tehran, was intended to be used by the supreme leader of the Iranian regime as a secure emergency command centre,” the Israeli army stated.

The strike involved approximately 50 Israeli fighter jets, targeting an underground network that spanned multiple streets in central Tehran. The impact of the operation has been profound, especially following Khamenei’s death, which occurred during the first day of joint US-Israeli strikes that escalated the region’s tensions.

Khamenei’s death on Saturday, during the initial phase of the attack, marks a pivotal moment in the Middle East conflict. While the Pentagon has confirmed that an Israeli strike killed Khamenei, President Donald Trump has attributed the operation to the combined efforts of Israeli airstrikes and US intelligence.

Israel’s military chief, Lieutenant General Eyal Zamir, described the precision of the strike, stating, “In just 40 seconds, approximately 40 senior officials of the Iranian terror regime were eliminated, including the regime’s leader, Ali Khamenei.”
