The Israeli military launched a series of “violent” airstrikes on Wednesday targeting Hezbollah strongholds in the southern suburbs of Beirut.

According to Lebanon’s state-run National News Agency and AFPTV footage, massive plumes of smoke rose over the Dahieh district as the Israel Defence Forces (IDF) hit what they described as militant infrastructure.

These attacks follow a significant escalation in regional hostilities that has displaced nearly 760,000 people across Lebanon.

On the ground, Hezbollah reported fierce clashes along the southern border, claiming its fighters engaged Israeli troops near the towns of Khiam, Odaisseh, and Aitaroun.

The group also launched rocket barrages into northern Israel, reportedly targeting a missile defence site south of Haifa.

Meanwhile, the Lebanese health ministry confirmed that recent raids in the Tyre district resulted in several fatalities, including a rescue worker killed in a “double-tap” strike while attempting to assist victims of a previous attack.

This latest wave of violence is part of a broader regional war that started on February 28, 2026, after joint US-Israeli strikes killed Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

In retaliation, Hezbollah launched massive rocket attacks against Israel, effectively ending a fragile 2024 ceasefire.

Israel responded by initiating a multi-front campaign, including a ground incursion into southern Lebanon and persistent aerial bombardments of Beirut, aimed at neutralising the Iran-backed group’s command and control centres.
