Israel will reopen the crossing on the Israeli-controlled border between Jordan and the occupied West Bank to humanitarian aid trucks destined for Gaza. An Israeli official confirmed the move on Tuesday, marking the first reopening since late September.

Speaking on the condition of anonymity, the official stated: “Following the understandings and a directive of the political echelon, starting tomorrow (Wednesday), the transfer of goods and aid from Jordan to the area of Judea and Samaria and to the Gaza Strip will be permitted through the Allenby Crossing.”

The official added that security adjustments were carried out at the crossing on both the Israeli and Jordanian sides, necessitating the reopening of the border.

He said that moving forward, security will be tightened, and trucks will be properly scrutinised.

“All aid trucks destined for the Gaza Strip will proceed under escort and security, following a thorough security inspection.”

The border crossing has been closed to aid and goods since September, after a driver bringing humanitarian aid to Gaza opened fire and killed two Israeli military personnel before being killed by security forces.

The Allenby Bridge is a key route for trade between Jordan and Israel and the only gateway for more than 3 million Palestinians in the Israeli-occupied West Bank to reach Jordan and the wider world.
