Israel Urges Egypt to Halt Gaza-Bound Convoy Carrying Aid

Israel’s Defence Minister has called on Egypt to prevent a convoy of pro-Palestinian activists from reaching the Gaza border, warning that any attempt to enter the territory would pose a security threat to Israeli forces.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, June 11, Minister Israel Katz urged Egyptian authorities to intervene as the activist group arrived in Tripoli, the capital of Libya, during their journey toward Gaza.

“I expect the Egyptian authorities to prevent the arrival of terrorist protesters at the Egypt-Israel border and not to allow them to carry out provocations or attempt to enter Gaza—an act that would endanger the safety of (Israeli) soldiers and will not be allowed,” Katz said.

The convoy, which involves thousands of demonstrators, has drawn attention during heightened tensions surrounding the Israeli bombardment of Gaza. The Israeli government has consistently opposed unauthorised entry into the Palestinian enclave, citing national security concerns.

Egypt shares a border with Gaza at the Rafah crossing and plays a key role in mediating regional tensions and controlling access to the Strip.
