The Jerusalem District Court has approved the confiscation of 20 million shekels ($5.5 million) from Palestinian tax revenues collected by Israel on behalf of the Palestinian Authority. The funds will be used to compensate the families of two settlers killed in Huwara village, south of occupied Nablus, two years ago.
According to Hebrew Channel 7, the court issued the order following a lawsuit filed by the settlers’ families under the victims’ compensation programme.
Israel has frequently withheld or deducted portions of Palestinian tax revenues as a form of collective punishment, often citing compensation for settlers allegedly affected by Palestinian resistance. These revenues, which amount to approximately $188 million monthly, are subject to a three percent deduction by Israel for what they call “operational fees.”
