Chelsea captain Reece James is looking forward to a future of continued success at Stamford Bridge, having committed to the club with a new six-year contract.
A product of Chelsea’s youth academy, James has been at the club since the age of six and is determined to spend his peak playing years at the Blues.
At 26, James has already enjoyed a glittering career, winning five major trophies, including the Champions League and the Club World Cup, and with over 200 appearances for Chelsea, more than 50 of them as captain, his leadership on and off the pitch has been undeniable.
“I have always said I want my peak years to be here, and I truly believe we have everything it takes to build on our previous successes,” James said in a club statement.
His optimism is shared by the club’s sporting directors, Paul Winstanley and Laurence Stewart, who praised the English defender’s leadership qualities.
“On behalf of ownership and everyone connected to Chelsea, it is a proud moment for all of us to have Reece extend his contract. He is the leader of this team, both on and off the pitch,” they said.

While Chelsea secured the Conference League and Club World Cup in the past year, the team has struggled to contend for the Premier League title since the change in ownership in 2022. The Blues currently sit fifth in the Premier League, with nine games left to play. Despite this, James remains optimistic about the club’s future under the current ownership, coaching staff, and new players.
Having recently overcome injury issues, James is poised to start as England’s right-back for the upcoming World Cup, marking his highest tally of appearances in a season since 2021/22 and hopes his continued commitment to Chelsea will lead to further silverware in the seasons ahead.
