The Jigawa State Government has cautioned residents against paying money to access registration for the Nigerian Government’s Renewed Hope programme, warning that some individuals are exploiting the process.
In a statement issued on Monday in Dutse, the state capital, the Commissioner for Information, Youths, Sports, and Culture, Sagir Musa, said registration for the initiative remains completely free.
“The registration is free, without collecting any single kobo from the public.”
Musa disclosed that the government had received reports alleging that some enumerators were demanding ₦500 from applicants, describing the practice as illegal and unacceptable.
“Some enumerators are demanding N500 from those being registered, which is illegal,” he said.

He urged those involved in the registration process to desist immediately and called on members of the public to report anyone requesting payment.
According to him, the program was introduced to improve livelihoods across the state and country, and he added that the government is committed to ensuring that only intended beneficiaries are reached without financial exploitation.
“The Renewed Hope programme aims to support vulnerable individuals and households, and the government is working to ensure it reaches those in need.”
The commissioner also warned that anyone found collecting money from applicants would face sanctions, noting that authorities are monitoring the process closely to prevent abuse.
He appealed for public cooperation to ensure the initiative’s successful implementation and encouraged residents to report any suspected misconduct to the relevant authorities.
“We advise the public to report any cases of money being demanded for registration to the relevant authorities.
“Registration for the Renewed Hope programme is ongoing, and interested individuals are encouraged to participate without paying any fees.”
