Former Abia State governors, Senators Orji Kalu and Theodore Orji, met in Umuahia to strategise on reclaiming power from Governor Alex Otti ahead of the 2027 general election.
Addressing the gathering on Friday, Kalu said the meeting sought to unite political figures who served in the state between 2009 and 2023 to form a united political front.
According to Punch Newspapers, the former governor, who represents Abia North in the 10th Senate, proposed expanding the group—known as “The Team”—to include all former political office holders who served during the same period.

Kalu highlighted the group’s contributions to Abia State’s development, insisting their record in office should not be dismissed.
He described leadership as a relay, noting that he handed over to Theodore Orji, who in turn passed on to Okezie Ikpeazu, arguing that no single individual could claim the previous administrations achieved nothing.
He stressed that the group’s central objective was to ensure a change of leadership in 2027.
Kalu also urged members to remain committed, adding that the platform was bipartisan and open to supporters across party lines.
A major highlight of the meeting came when former Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly, Chinedum Orji, moved a motion to include all political office holders—such as National Assembly members—who served between 2009 and 2023. The motion received unanimous approval.
