The Kano State chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has elected a new set of party executives and allocated 60 per cent of its state executive structure to former Kano State governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.
At a state congress held on Sunday at the Cobra Stadium in Magajin Rumfa, Abdullahi Maikano was elected chairman, alongside 33 other executive members.
Details of the outcome, released by Kwankwaso’s media aide, Saifullahi Hassan, showed that Bala Inuwa was elected secretary, while Abba Muktar and Salisu Muhammad were chosen as treasurer and financial secretary, respectively.
According to Hassan, Kwankwaso accepted 60 per cent of the party structure in the state, turning down an earlier proposal that would have given him 80 per cent control.

He explained that the decision was intended to encourage broader inclusion within the opposition coalition.
Other positions selected included Muhammad Yahaya as legal adviser, Farida Kamba as women’s leader, and Sunusi Oscar as youth leader.
The congress was attended by members of the party’s state transition committee as well as national officials deployed from Abuja to supervise the exercise and screen aspirants.
Kwankwaso had joined the ADC in March after leaving the New Nigeria People’s Party, the platform under which he contested the 2023 presidential election.
