The Kano State Executive Council has approved projects worth over ₦8.2 billion to revitalise the education sector, improve water supply, and promote energy efficiency across the state.
In a statement issued on Sunday, November 2, the governor’s spokesperson, Sanusi Bature, said the approvals were granted during the council’s 33rd meeting, chaired by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.
According to Bature, over ₦4.9 billion of the total allocation will fund major education projects aimed at improving infrastructure, enhancing learning standards, and expanding access to quality education.
Among the projects approved are the Phase II renovation of Government Technical College, Ungogo; payment of outstanding debts owed to boarding school feeding contractors; and the production of instructional materials at the Kano Printing Press.
Other initiatives include completing and furnishing the e-library at the Kano State College of Education and Preliminary Studies, as well as financing accreditation exercises at Kano State Polytechnic.
The council also approved the procurement of office furniture and fittings for Northwest University, Kano, to strengthen both academic and administrative operations.

“Education remains the cornerstone of our development agenda, and we will continue to invest in facilities that promote quality teaching and learning,” the statement read.
Separately, the council allocated ₦3.3 billion for water supply and energy-related projects designed to enhance access to clean water and ensure energy efficiency in urban and rural areas.
The funding covers the construction of a modern water treatment plant at Taliwaiwai in Rano Local Government Area, settlement of electricity and fuel bills owed by the State Water Board, and payment of outstanding liabilities to KEDCO.
It will also support the procurement of diesel (AGO) and petrol (PMS) for water treatment facilities and the management of water supply infrastructure.
According to the statement, these interventions will “guarantee a steady water supply, improve energy efficiency, and promote better living standards for the people of Kano.”
Governor Yusuf reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to prioritising investments that directly improve citizens’ welfare and advance infrastructure development throughout the state.
