A tragic road accident in Kwanar Barde, Gezawa Local Government Area of Kano State, killed over 30 people early on Sunday, with many others seriously injured, local officials reported.
The crash involved a trailer en route to Gujungu that reportedly lost control due to reckless driving. Injured passengers are receiving treatment in hospitals across the state.
A Kano State Government spokesperson confirmed the incident, saying the trailer crash resulted in “the death of over 30 persons, while many others sustained serious injuries.”
Governor Abba Yusuf expressed deep sorrow over the loss, describing it as heartbreaking. “This incident is a great loss, not only to the affected families but to the entire people of Kano State,” he said, offering prayers for the deceased and a speedy recovery for the injured.

In response, the governor directed relevant agencies to act immediately. The Ministry of Health was instructed to provide free and adequate care for all hospitalised victims, while the Office of the Special Adviser on Humanitarian Affairs was tasked with supporting the families.
Governor Yusuf also warned motorists, especially drivers of heavy vehicles, to obey traffic rules. “Reckless driving must be avoided at all costs to prevent the recurrence of such devastating incidents,” he urged.
Medical and humanitarian teams have been mobilised to assist victims and their families as Kano State mourns one of its deadliest road accidents in recent memory.
