Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, killed in US-Israeli strikes on Saturday, will be buried in the holy city of Mashhad, according to the Fars news agency.
Khamenei, 86, led Iran for 36 years and was originally from Mashhad, the country’s second-largest city.

His father is also buried there at the Imam Reza shrine.
Before the burial, a “large farewell ceremony” will be held in Tehran, the Revolutionary Guards said on their Telegram account.
No date for the burial has been announced.
Following Khamenei’s death, power has been temporarily transferred to a three-man interim council until the Assembly of Experts elects his successor.
The council includes the president, the head of the judiciary, and a jurist from the Guardian Council, which oversees legislation and vets electoral candidates.
Fars, citing an official, said the assembly’s final meeting may be postponed until after Khamenei’s burial for security reasons.
Iranian media also reported that the building housing the 88-member assembly in Qom, south of Tehran, was struck on Tuesday in US-Israeli attacks. Its main headquarters in Tehran was hit the day before.
