Bayern Munich have confirmed that Joshua Kimmich has extended his contract with the club until 2029, securing his future in Bavaria for another four years.
The German international’s previous deal was set to expire at the end of the season, but he has now committed to remaining at Bayern long-term.
Kimmich explained his decision by stating that Bayern provides “the best environment to achieve my sporting goals.” He added, “There’s currently no better combination of teammates, coaching staff, and club environment for me to achieve maximum success. I feel at home here, and I’m not finished yet.”
The 30-year-old midfielder had hinted at his contract extension after Bayern’s 2-0 victory over Bayer Leverkusen on Tuesday, a result that secured their place in the Champions League quarterfinals.
Despite previous speculation about his departure, Kimmich has found his best form under Vincent Kompany, playing every minute of the Bundesliga season before a minor injury sidelined him in February.

Already the captain of the German national team, Kimmich is widely seen as the natural successor to Bayern’s long-time skipper Manuel Neuer.
Sporting director Christoph Freund praised Kimmich as “a driving force that will tirelessly push Bayern forward in the future.”
His contract extension follows Bayern’s recent moves to secure key players, with Neuer, Jamal Musiala, and Alphonso Davies also agreeing to new deals.
Since joining Bayern from Stuttgart in 2015 after a brief stint with RB Leipzig, Kimmich has made 429 appearances, scoring 43 goals and providing 115 assists. He has won eight Bundesliga titles and was part of Bayern’s 2020 Champions League-winning squad.
With Bayern currently eight points ahead of defending champions Leverkusen, they are on course to reclaim the Bundesliga title. Their next major challenge will be facing Inter Milan in the Champions League quarterfinals, with this season’s final set to be held in Munich in May.
