The Obaro of Kabba, Oba Solomon Owoniyi, together with the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), has ordered all church activities suspended until further notice following recent attacks in Kogi State.

A notice issued by Rev. Kayode Osatuyi, the Coordinator of CAN in Kabba/Bunu Local Government Area (LGA), and signed by Punch News, said the decision was reached during a meeting held at the monarch’s palace with traditional rulers and church leaders.

The notice reads, “Following the directive from the Obaro of Kabba and Chairman of the Kabba Bunu Traditional Council, Oba Solomon Owoniyi, at the meeting held with traditional rulers and church leaders of the Christian Association of Nigeria Kabba/Bunu LGA at his palace, he directed the closure of all church services until further notice upon a credible security report on an attack by the bandits on our churches.”

Osatuyi called for continuous prayers for peace in Kabba/Bunu land, adding that churches would be informed when it was safe to resume activities.

He explained that the directive was issued after consultation with the state leadership of CAN, urging all churches in the area to comply in the interest of public safety.

The Kogi State Government recently discovered a large cache of arms and ammunition from criminal hideouts during a joint security operation, Punch reports.

Authorities have warned churches, especially those on town outskirts, to reconsider services in high-risk areas.

Last month, a Cherubim and Seraphim Church was attacked, and on Sunday, bandits struck the Evangelical Church Winning All in Kiri, reportedly killing two worshippers and abducting around 20 others.
