The Kogi State Government has announced the temporary closure of schools across the state as a preventive measure, based on credible security intelligence, to protect pupils, students, and teachers.

The decision was made out of responsibility rather than panic, according to Kingsley Fanwo, the Commissioner for Information and Communications, who spoke to reporters in Lokoja on Tuesday.

Fanwo noted that the government took proactive measures to prevent potential security incidents.

“The safety of our children, teachers, and educational institutions remains non-negotiable. This administration will always prioritise lives while ensuring continuity in governance and education,” Fanwo added.

He added that Governor Usman Ododo has directed relevant agencies to implement measures to ensure schools resume academic activities as soon as it is safe, with minimal disruption to the academic calendar.

Fanwo also praised security agencies for providing timely and actionable intelligence, noting that such cooperation underscores the effectiveness of the state’s security architecture.

He assured residents that the government remains in control of the situation, with security agencies working around the clock to identify and dismantle criminal hideouts across the state.

Meanwhile, the National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools (NAPPS), Kogi State chapter chairman, Reuben Jimoh, informed members that the midterm break has been fast-forwarded and school will resume on 16/02/2026.

“Therefore, there will be no school tomorrow until 16/02/2026. “No school should go against this adjustment,” Jimoh said.
