The Kogi State Polytechnic has lost two lecturers in less than two months.
A lecturer of Public Administration at the Kogi State Polytechnic, Anslem Ojodomo, slumped and died while lecturing on Thursday.
His death comes a month after another lecturer in the polytechnic, Barnabas Akuba, passed away shortly after completing his PhD program.
Odujomo’s death was confirmed by John Onimisi, the institution’s acting Co-ordinator, Directorate of Public Relations, in a statement issued on Friday.
According to Onimisi, the polytechnic’s Rector, Prof. Salihu Avidime, described the death of the Public Administration lecturer as a “deep personal shock”.
“The Rector, Prof. Salihu Sanusi Avidime, in his remarks, has described the news of Anselm’s passing as a deep personal shock, noting that only a few hours before his demise yesterday, he had met with him after a meeting with the School of Management Studies; vigorous and full of life as they exchanged pleasantries, and even shook hands, a moment that sadly has now become a painful memory,” said Onimisi.
The Rector hailed the deceased Public Administration lecturer as a promising academic and dependable colleague, who embodied scholarship, service, and character.
A source within the school said he slumped while addressing his students, sending the class into a panic.
”He was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital for urgent medical attention but was later confirmed dead despite efforts by medical personnel to save his life,” the source said.
The deaths of the two lecturers have thrown staff members and students into a state of panic and uncertainty.
