Senator Saliu Mustapha, representing Kwara Central Senatorial District, has announced his resignation from the All Progressives Congress (APC), citing recent developments within the party in Kwara State as the reason for his decision.
In a resignation notice issued on Friday, Mustapha said he had formally withdrawn his membership of the ruling party after “careful considerations” and consultations with stakeholders, supporters, constituents, and other residents of Kwara State.
The senator said the decision was not taken lightly, adding that it followed weeks of engagements with political associates and community members across the Kwara Central Senatorial District.
According to him, politics should remain centred on “people, principles and purpose,” stressing that political platforms must align with the values and aspirations of the people they represent.
“Where the path of a political platform no longer sufficiently aligns with these convictions and the aspirations of the people one represents, the honourable thing to do is to chart a new course,” Mustapha said.

While announcing his exit from the APC, the lawmaker thanked the party’s leadership, particularly President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for the relationships and experiences he gained during his time as a member.
“To the leadership of the APC ably led by H.E. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, I express my deepest gratitude for the relationships and experiences I have been afforded over the years,” he said.
Mustapha assured his supporters and constituents that his resignation from the party would not affect his commitment to public service. He said his political platform might change, but his principles, purpose, and dedication to the people of Kwara Central, Kwara State, and Nigeria would remain unchanged.
The senator, who holds the traditional title of Turaki of Ilorin Emirate, did not immediately disclose his next political move after leaving the APC.
