Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq on Monday presented a ₦644,004,816,893 budget proposal for the 2026 fiscal year to the Kwara State House of Assembly.

Addressing lawmakers at the Assembly complex in Ilorin, the governor said the proposal allocates ₦424.7 billion, or 65.98 per cent, to capital expenditure, while ₦219.3 billion, representing 34.02 per cent, is earmarked for recurrent spending.

He said the budget structure reflects his administration’s commitment to completing ongoing projects and addressing key public needs across the state.

AbdulRazaq explained that the 2026 budget places strong emphasis on security, with increased funding for security equipment, operational vehicles, and modern technology to boost the fight against kidnapping and other crimes.

He added that the proposal seeks to consolidate development gains while improving the welfare and safety of residents.

In his response, Speaker of the House Yakubu Salihu assured the governor that lawmakers would subject the appropriation bill to detailed legislative scrutiny in the interest of the people of Kwara State.

Salihu said the House was encouraged by the scale of development projects across the state’s 16 local government areas and pledged a careful and thorough review of the budget.
