The year cypher of hip hop artistes have launched the career of many musicians or the first to give them the mainstream limelight. Case in point is Nicki Minaj’s feature in the 2009 cypher.

This year, Ghanaian rapper Kwesi Arthur is going to be featured in the cypher.

He will be representing the country in the 2020 BET Hip Hop Awards Cypher.

The performance has already been recorded and it will be streamed during the award show this Wednesday.

Since the news hit online, Ghanaians have been pretty excited.

Kwesi Arthur won the 2020 VGMA Best Rapper of the Year award in August. Therefore, being the only Ghanaian to be featured in the cypher gives proof to the international appeal of his rap style.

This is not the first time the Tema-based rapper has graced the BET stage. In 2018, he gained his first BET nomination and has gone ahead to gain other nominations from international award schemes.

The BET Hip-Hop Cypher however, is done as a precursor to the award ceremony where rappers are brought together to prove their mettle and battle it out for supremacy.

Although no Ghanaian act was nominated for this year’s 2020 BET Hip-Hop awards, many Ghanaians are expressing satisfaction at seeing Kwesi Arthur being featured on the cypher.

Kwesi was featured alongside other African artistes including Angola’s Cage One, Ginger Trill (South Africa), Rosa Ree (Tanzania), King Kaka (Kenya), Suspect 95 (Ivory Coast), Elizabeth Ventura (Angola) and Omg Oumy Gueye (Senegal).
The cypher will be released on October 20 ahead of the BET Hip-Hop Awards which is slated for October 28.

Born Emmanuel Kwesi Danso Arthur Junior, Kwesi Arthur is currently considered one of the best young artistes in Ghana and in Africa.
He became the second Ghanaian rapper to be nominated for BET Hip-Hop Awards Cypher after Sarkodie’s nomination in 2019.

Kwesi Arthur has collaborated with numerous Ghanaian acts which include Sarkodie, Medikal, KiDi, Jason E LA, R2Bees, B4bonah, M3dal, M.anifest, EL, Stonebwoy, Shatta Wale and South African rapper Nasty C .
