Lagos Expands Financial Aid, Eid el-Kabir Palliatives Programme

The Lagos State Government has provided N2.46 billion in financial support to 8,690 vulnerable residents within the past year through the Sanwo-Olu Listens Financial Assistance Programme.

This was disclosed by Dr. Afolabi Tajudeen, Special Adviser to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Political, Legislative and Civic Engagement, during the 2025 Ministerial Press Briefing held in Ikeja.

Dr. Tajudeen explained that the initiative, launched in 2020, was designed to assist residents struggling with medical expenses, rent, education costs, and the sustainability of small businesses.

“This initiative not only provides direct financial relief, but also embodies the government’s enduring commitment to compassion, inclusivity, and economic empowerment,” he said.

An additional N1.6 billion is set to be disbursed within the next two weeks to about 1,000 beneficiaries as part of the Muslim Eid festive palliatives.

“This Sallah palliative is part of our broader effort to ease the financial burden on our most disadvantaged citizens during festive periods,” Dr. Tajudeen added.

The state government also highlighted the success of several complementary programmes:

Eko Cares: Empowered 6,000+ entrepreneurs, helping them build sustainable income sources and improve family welfare.

Mother, Infant and Child Development Fund: Over N400 million allocated for nutrition and healthcare, reaching 6,280 mothers and children.

Snacks for Thought: A school feeding programme that served 11,965 public school pupils nutritious meals to support learning and well-being.

Citizens Gate Platform: The state received and reviewed over 400,000 feedback entries, enhancing responsiveness and inclusivity in governance.

Dr. Tajudeen concluded by reaffirming the Sanwo-Olu administration’s commitment to poverty alleviation, inclusive development, and sustained support for vulnerable residents across Lagos.
