The Lagos State Government has announced temporary road closures on Lagos Island on Monday for the annual Lagos Fanti Carnival.

The Ministry of Tourism, Arts, and Culture stated on Friday that the restrictions would begin at 7:00 a.m. to ensure a safe and orderly carnival procession.

Affected roads include King George V Road at the Mobil Junction, Onikan Roundabout inbound to TBS, Flagstaff House inbound to TBS, Outer Marina by State House inbound to TBS, Campbell Street by the Old Defence Building, and Catholic Mission Street by St. Nicholas Hospital.

The ministry advised motorists to plan alternative routes, with diversion plans mapped out by the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) to ease congestion.

Vehicles from Obalende descending toward Onikan Roundabout will be redirected to Zone 2, while those from Bonny Camp toward McEwen Bridge and Flagstaff House to TBS will use Obalende Bridge.

Traffic from the Outer Marina to TBS would be diverted to the Obalende Bridge to allow unrestricted passage around the funfair route.

According to the ministry, the traffic plan was created to minimise interference with everyday activities, particularly for businesses and commuters in the Lagos Island region.

“The state government regrets any inconvenience this may cause and appreciates the cooperation of the public,” the ministry said.

Lagos’s Fanti Carnival, a cultural event showcasing music, dance, and vibrant displays that highlight the city’s rich Afro-Brazilian heritage, is expected to draw locals, visitors, and cultural enthusiasts.
