The Lagos state government has brought Chukwudumeme Onwuamadike, widely known as Evans, to court again for allegedly murdering two police officers.

Evans appeared in court on Monday with Joseph Emeka before A. O. Ogala, the presiding judge, facing a five-count charge including murder, attempted murder, and conspiracy to commit kidnapping. Both defendants entered a plea of not guilty. Evans and Emeka are currently held at the Kirikiri Maximum Custodial Centre after being convicted in separate cases.

Judge Oluwatoyin Taiwo initially presided over the trial of Evans and Emeka before her retirement. They are charged with the murders of Peter Nweke and Chijioke Ngozi, which took place on August 27, 2013, in the Festac district of Lagos. Additionally, they are accused of attempting to kidnap Vincent Obianodo, the chairman of Young Shall Grow Motors.

The case has since been reassigned to a different judge. At one point, Evans had attempted to negotiate a plea deal with the prosecution.

Both are involved in multiple trials across various courts related to similar charges.

In February 2022, Akeem Oshodi, an Ikeja High Court judge, found Evans and two other individuals guilty on two counts relating to conspiracy and kidnapping. They were convicted of abducting Donatus Dunu, the CEO of Maydon Pharmaceuticals Ltd.

According to the prosecution, Dunu was kidnapped in Lagos on February 14, 2017, and the assailants demanded £223,000 (N100 million) in ransom from his family.

On February 25, 2022, the perpetrators received life sentences.
