The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has lost its last remaining seat in the Gombe State House of Assembly after Yakubu Daniel, popularly known as Shetiman Bare, who represents Billiri East Constituency, defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
His defection effectively leaves the opposition without representation in the state legislature, completing the APC’s takeover of all 24 seats in the Assembly.
Receiving the lawmaker into the ruling party on Saturday, Gombe state Governor Muhammadu Yahaya described the move as a strong endorsement of his administration and policies.
According to him, Daniel’s decision reflects growing public trust in the APC’s governance style and development agenda in the state.

“This is a strong vote of confidence in our leadership, our policies and our inclusive style of governance. For the last remaining opposition member in the Assembly to take this step speaks volumes about the direction we are taking in Gombe State,” the governor said.
Yahaya also maintained that his administration remains open to new entrants willing to contribute to state-building, stressing that the APC continues to promote unity, fairness, and equal opportunity.
“Our doors remain open to all who are willing to join us in building a better Gombe. The APC is a party that believes in unity, justice and equal opportunity. We will continue to provide a level playing field for everyone, regardless of when they join.”
He linked the party’s growing dominance in Gombe to what he described as public satisfaction with both state policies and the government’s Renewed Hope Agenda under President Bola Tinubu.
“The overwhelming support we are witnessing is not by chance. It is a product of the trust the people have in what we are doing here in Gombe, as well as the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu at the national level,” he added.
Daniel’s defection marks the final exit of the PDP from the state legislature, following earlier defections by other opposition lawmakers.
