Lazio secured a place in the Italian Cup quarter-finals on Thursday thanks to a late strike from Mattia Zaccagni, who headed home Nuno Tavares’ corner to earn a 1-0 victory over AC Milan in Rome.
Maurizio Sarri’s side will face holders Bologna in the last eight, with Zaccagni’s goal coming just ten minutes from time to decide the tightly contested match.
The defeat ended AC Milan’s unbeaten run since a loss to Cremonese in August, leaving coach Massimiliano Allegri to concentrate on the Serie A title and the Italian Super Cup this season.

Milan remain top of the league on goal difference from Napoli, who also reached the quarter-finals with a victory over Cagliari in the Cup on Wednesday.
Bologna continued their title defence with a 2-1 win against Parma, secured by Santiago Castro’s 89th-minute strike.
The final ties of the last 16 are scheduled for January, when Roma will host Torino and Fiorentina will take on Como.
