The Lake Chad Research Institute (LCRI) in Maiduguri has engaged with farmers and stakeholders during the 2025 in-house review meeting and the North East Zonal Refills Workshop to promote climate-smart agricultural practices.
The initiative focuses on leveraging innovative research and extension services to support communities in the North East region recovering from the impact of insurgency and climate-related challenges. The LCRI emphasised the urgent need to adopt resilient farming techniques that align with environmental realities and boost food security.
As part of its recovery and development strategy, the institute is enhancing farmer capacity building through targeted training, climate-resilient crop trials, and improved access to extension services. By bridging the gap between research and field application, LCRI aims to revitalise agricultural productivity, strengthen rural livelihoods, and contribute to long-term peace and stability in the region.
